Genius Healer Episode 7: For Some Reason, I’m Adored by One Big Shot After Another

“Xenos, I made tea.”

It was late at night.

At the clinic, which had finished its business for the day, Lily placed a steaming cup on the dining table.

“Thanks, Lily. You’re so thoughtful.”

“Hehe, praise me more.”

“Alright, alright.”

When he stroked her head, Lily’s pointed ears twitched happily.

“By the way, why are there three cups?”

“One for Xenos, one for Lily, and one for Camilla.”

“Will she… drink it?”

“Of course, I will.”

“She will, huh?”

Before he knew it, Camilla, the wraith, was sitting in the opposite seat.

Her form was translucent, but she seemed to be able to touch things. Camilla skillfully lifted the cup with her pure white fingertips and poured the tea down her throat.

Lily seemed completely accustomed to this highest-ranking undead, and was cautioning Camilla to be careful of burns. Camilla replied with something like, “Indeed, I must be careful. Kukuku…” and was blowing on it, but isn’t a wraith that gets burned by tea kind of a weakling?

“Anyway, you’ve been busy lately, Xenos.”

“You could say that.”

Through Zofia the Swift’s introduction, the lizardmen of the bandit group had been coming to Xenos’ clinic incessantly. They paid well, so it was helpful for the clinic’s business.

“Hmph. It’s boring for me because no one dies.”

Camilla grumbled, but she finished her tea and disappeared upstairs.

“Hey, Xenos. Why are the lizardmen always injured?”

“They’re probably fighting with someone.”

The slum where the bandit’s stronghold was located was a melting pot of races.

There were not only humans, but also a wide variety of demi-humans, and even among the poor, there were constant skirmishes for territorial disputes between races.

Among them, there were three major factions of demi-humans.

One was the lizardmen faction led by Zofia.

Another was the robust orc tribe.

“And the other one is the Were-…”

Just as he said that, the front door was blown off with a loud bang.

“Xenos, someone’s here!”

Lily and Xenos headed to the entrance, and from the gaping hole, a group of men with wolf faces holding axes rushed into the room.

Xenos looked at the newcomers and shrugged.

“Looks like another faction has arrived.”

Werewolves.

A major demi-human force in the slums, standing shoulder to shoulder with the lizardmen and orcs.

“Boss, it’s here.”

“Good work.”

A woman emerged from behind the werewolves.

Her face seemed to have a strong human lineage and was relatively well-featured, but her fingertips had sharp claws indicating that she was a werewolf, and large wolf ears protruded from between her gray hair that fell to her shoulders.

“I never thought there would be a clinic in a place like this. Are you the dark healer, Xenos?”

“That’s me, but who are you?”

“I’m Ringa, the leader of the werewolves.”

Ringa the Tyrant. He had heard the name before.

She was a female werewolf who was said to be the boss of illegal gambling in the back alleys.

He heard that she had noble patrons and connections to the central government.

“Seriously, it’s just one big shot from the underworld after another. We’re technically closed for the day, you know. But if it’s a serious emergency, I’ll take a look.”

“If it’s an emergency, it’s you, Xenos.”

Ringa pointed her sharp claws at Xenos.

“No matter how much I beat up Zofia’s subordinates, they keep coming back quickly. I thought it was strange.”

She said that she thought something was strange, so she had her subordinates follow the lizardmen, and they discovered this clinic in the ruined city.

“Xenos. You seem to be quite skilled.”

“Not really. I’m just a shady dark healer without a license.”

“I’m going to kill you.”

“Are you listening to me?”

“If I do that, there will be no one to heal Zofia’s subordinates. And I will defeat Zofia.”

“Hey, are you listening to me?”

Are those beast ears just for show? – Before he could retort, Ringa swung her hatchet at Xenos’ neck.

Clang!

Ringa’s gray eyes widened.

“Why isn’t your head flying off?”

“As I thought, you’re not listening at all. Lily, go to the back room.”

“O-Okay!”

Xenos had already covered his body with protective magic.

Aston and the others’ punishments were harsh, and he had to learn it whether he liked it or not because he was sometimes used as a substitute for magical beasts.

“Impossible, my axe can’t even scratch you?”

Actually, his protective magic was self-taught, but when he accidentally got left behind in a dragon’s nest before, he was able to return unharmed, so it was probably fine.

Ringa and her subordinates were sweating profusely and attacking him repeatedly. Their desperate expressions, baring their fangs, gradually made him feel sorry for them.

“Hey… are you done yet?”

“N-No! It can’t be helped. You guys, destroy the building.”

“Yes, Boss!”

At Ringa’s command, the subordinate werewolves began to destroy the furniture and walls with their hatchets.

“Ah. Hey, you shouldn’t do that.”

“Fuhaha, if I can’t kill you, I’ll destroy your base of healing. This is what happens when you underestimate werewolves.”

It was true that protective magic could only be applied to living things.

But that wasn’t the problem.

“Oh well, don’t blame me. I’m just a freeloader here.”

“Huh…?”

Ringa and the others noticed that they were surrounded by a chilling cold air.

A woman with long hair was standing against the back wall.

Her black eyes, which seemed to melt into the night, gradually hollowed out, and her figure swelled.

“A W-Wraith! It’s a Wraith!”

Someone screamed, and the werewolves rushed to the exit.

However, due to panic, they pushed against each other and couldn’t get out easily. Wraiths seemed to be a terrifying monster for them. He had forgotten about it recently, but when he thought back, Lily had said that it was the end if you met one.

Camilla slowly floated up and spread her arms.

A sinister aura filled the space.

“You dare to destroy my lair. I won’t forgive you…”

The screams of the werewolves echoed.

“Wait, Camilla.”

When Xenos spoke, Camilla stopped moving.

“I understand how you feel. I’m honestly irritated that my treatment room, which I just cleaned, has been damaged.”

“Then it’s fine. Give me their lives.”

“The second floor is your room. If they go to the second floor, do whatever you want. But the treatment room on the first floor is a place to save lives. It’s not a place to take them.”

“…”

The wraith remained still in the air for a while and said.

“…Hmph. I know. Oh, how irritating.”

“Thank you for being angry.”

“It’s not for you. It’s for me.”

And then, Camilla slowly disappeared to the second floor.

“This place is more comfortable than before.”

“The wraith… listened to you…?”

Ringa, who had collapsed on the floor, muttered in a daze, then suddenly rubbed her head on the floor.

“X-Xenos-dono, I’m sorry! I didn’t know that Xenos-dono was the master of a wraith.”

“I’m not her master…”

“We werewolves are originally servants of the night. We instinctively fear higher beings like wraiths and vampires. I’ve shown such disrespect to Xenos-dono, who commands that wraith.”

“That’s why I’m not commanding her…”

“That’s right, you guys, kowtow! Show your sincerity to Xenos-dono.”

“Yes, Boss!”

“Oh yeah, this girl doesn’t listen.”

Surrounded by the group of kowtowing werewolves, Xenos let out a deep sigh.
