The Kingdom of Hazes.
“Let us be the light that illuminates the continent” – From the famous words of the nation’s founder, it is a great nation also known as the Kingdom of the Sun.
Surrounding the palace in the center of the royal capital is a special district where the nobles, descendants of those who contributed to the founding of the nation, reside.
In one corner of that district, there is an area called the administrative district, where the central organs of the state are gathered. Within it stood a vast building with pure white exterior walls. Displayed high above the main gate was an emblem of two hands gently cupping the sun, as if healing it.
The Royal Healing Institute.
It is the headquarters for all healers in the Kingdom of Hazes.
“Professor Becker, may I ask you something?”
In a room of that building, a blue-haired girl wearing glasses spoke.
“What is it, Umin?”
In front of her sat a man with brown hair and a gentle face.
He didn’t seem to care much about his appearance, and he had bedhead at the back of his head.
The girl called Umin hesitantly asked her question.
“Um… Is it possible for someone without a healer’s license to use special-grade healing magic?”
“…?”
The man tilted his head slightly.
“I wonder… If they don’t have a license, they either haven’t received formal education or they failed the exam.”
“Well, I suppose so.”
“So, for them to be at a special-grade level is normally unthinkable, I think.”
“I agree…”
“But, if such a person existed—”
The depths of his slightly drooping eyes gleamed.
Umin involuntarily braced herself and swallowed.
“If they existed…?”
“It would be so cool!!”
Umin’s knees buckled.
“C-cool, you say…”
“It is cool. Because, isn’t it amazing? To become a special-grade healer through self-study.”
The man’s eyes sparkled.
This professor sometimes has his spacey moments.
Well, that’s one of the things she likes about him.
The man soon straightened his posture and smiled gently.
“Well, if such a person existed, I’d love to meet them, but it’s probably not likely. If they were operating without a license, my position would require me to crack down on them.”
Treatment. Education. Research.
Support for adventurers.
And supervision and management of domestic healing clinics are the main duties of the Royal Healing Institute.
“So, what made you ask?”
“No, I was just curious.”
Umin waved her hand. She was strangely bothered by the fact that there wasn’t a single injured person requiring treatment during the monster incident in the slums.
She’d had the idea that maybe, somewhere in this country, a genius healer was hiding in the shadows. But the notion seemed too far-fetched, and she hesitated to say more.
In the end, there was no official announcement about the incident.
The Royal Guard was probably controlling the information, but the central government basically shows no interest in what happens in the slums.
The man suddenly remembered something and pulled an envelope from a drawer.
“Oh, yes. It’s your turn for a regional house call duty. Would you go, Umin?”
“Again? Professor, you’re always getting stuck with these.”
“You’re absolutely right. But house calls to areas with insufficient medical care are also an important part of the Royal Healing Institute’s work.”
“I know that, but…”
She didn’t dislike house calls.
However, she had a lot on her mind right now, and she wasn’t feeling up to it.
As if sensing Umin’s despondency, the man spoke gently.
“Umin, are you worried about that matter?”
“Yes, well…”
“I feel the same way, so I understand how you feel. But if you think about it too much and make yourself sick, it would be pointless.”
“Thank you.”
“Actually, that’s part of the reason I took this house call assignment.”
“…?”
Umin tilted her head slightly, and the man pulled a piece of paper from the envelope and handed it to her meaningfully.
“I recommend it for people who are feeling tired. After all, this time the house call destination is a place where people seeking healing gather.”
“A place where people gather…”
If that was the case, perhaps she might happen to meet the person she was looking for.
Umin gazed at the paper she had received and thought vaguely.
A/N: Chapter 2 will start soon.
Thank you for finding this.
