Genius Healer Episode 52: In Professor Goldrun’s Office

The research wing of the Royal Healing Institute.

The professor’s office was located near the top floor.

In a room furnished with expensive items, a middle-aged man with a mustache furrowed his brow and looked down at the world below.

This was Goldrun, a Special Grade Healer, rumored to be the next director of the Royal Healing Institute.

“Excuse me.”

One of his male secretaries knocked on the door and entered.

When Goldrun turned around, the secretary approached with a low bow.

“Professor. There’s something I’d like to bring to your attention.”

“What is it?”

“There are rumors of an interesting individual.”

“Oh?”

Goldrun’s subordinates were well aware that he was gathering capable and influential people into his faction to strengthen his power. Therefore, information about those who had achieved some kind of results or had high expectations was reported to him as quickly as possible.

“What kind of person?”

“Apparently, he’s a healer who can exorcise thirty ghosts at once.”

“Is that true?”

“That’s what he said.”

“What? Is he just boasting? That’s ridiculous. It’s not even worth talking about.”

“No, it’s not just that. He also apparently drew a magic circle that even Associate Professor Fasso had never seen before.”

“Fasso… Ah, that magic circle otaku.”

Goldrun leaned back deeply in his chair.

The fact that even a researcher of healing magic circles had never seen this one was a little intriguing.

“…Alright, I’ll at least hear the name.”

“He’s called Zeno.”

“I’ve never heard of him.”

“Yes, he seems to be a special trainee this year.”

“A special trainee?”

Goldrun’s expression instantly turned grim.

The special trainee program was a system where individuals could experience working at the Royal Healing Institute through recommendations, and they weren’t even official staff members. Although they had the backing of a recommendation, they were in a rather uncertain position, to say the least.

Translator’s Note

The sentence used was “umi no mono to mo yama no mono to mo shirenai” (海のものとも山のものとも知れない) is an idiom. It literally translates to “not knowing whether it’s something from the sea or something from the mountain”. Implying someone or something of unknown origins or potential, a complete unknown.

“Don’t bring such stories to me. Is my faction such a low-level faction that we’d accept a mere special trainee?”

“M-My apologies!”

The secretary bowed his head in a hurry.

Many secretaries, hoping to receive a small bonus for introducing talented individuals, were eager to report any rumors they heard as soon as possible.

“Professor, excuse me.”

Another secretary entered the room. Holding a single sheet of paper, the secretary addressed the professor.

“I have a report. There are many sightings of undead in Sura Cemetery.”

Due to the nature of the Healing Institute, people inevitably died there. The Institute worked in cooperation with the church, and the deceased were transported to a cemetery managed by the church. Sura Cemetery was the closest cemetery to the Royal Healing Institute.

“…Undead? Someone should just exorcise them.”

“It seems there are quite a few of them, and each research lab has been asked for assistance.”

“Then send someone appropriate. Don’t bother me with such trivial matters.”

“Yes, sir.”

After the secretary left, Goldrun spoke to the other secretary, who was still bowing his head.

“That’s enough, you may leave.”

“Y-Yes, my deepest apologies.”

“Ah… By the way, did you say he could exorcise thirty ghosts at once? If that story about the special trainee is true, I might consider it. Hah.”

Goldrun hadn’t said it seriously.

For Goldrun, who held immense power, the affairs of a mere special trainee were of no consequence. However, the secretary who heard him did not take it that way.

“…Understood.”

The secretary replied softly and left the professor’s office.
